It’s almost Christmas Eve, that means Santa will soon be on his way to deliver presents to all the good boys and girls around the world!

Santa, the elves and Mrs. Claus having been working all year long at the North Pole to make Christmas special for everyone.

When the big night arrives, Santa Claus depends on his sleigh and his reindeer to get all the presents delivered. But how does Santa’s sleigh work?

What does Santa’s Sleigh look Like?

Santa’s sleigh is red with gold trim along the outside edges. The bottom of the sleigh is and the sled reins are black.

The sled reins are the straps that are attached to the reindeer that Santa pulls to steer the sled. It also has sleigh bells.

Santa Claus’s sled it’s rather big. It is approximately 25 ft. long and 10 ft. wide.

Some say on Christmas Eve, it looks like a fast of light in the sky, other reports suggest it looks similar to a falling star.

Sleigh Features

Now, in the olden days Santa’s sleigh didn’t have many features. In fact he had to use the starts to find his way, but times have changed.

Today, it is believed that Santa Claus’s sled has many features. Instead of using stars, Santa’s sleigh has a GPS so that he never gets lost.

He also is believed to have heated seats, a hot chocolate dispenser, many pop out compartments to hold gifts, night vision goggles, reindeer food storage container, naughty or nice radar that updates every hour, and seat belts for Santa and the elves that travel with him.

How does Santa’s Sled Fly?

The magic of Christmas is believed to make Santa’s sleigh fly, and of course reindeer. Santa has a team of 8 reindeer:

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen. Santa also uses Rudolph with his red nose to guide the sleigh during bad weather.

Making Santa’s Sleigh Team

Santa’s sleigh team consists of reindeer, and elves. To make it onto Santa’s sled team is a very special honor. Reindeer practice all year long to make the team at a special reindeer training camp at the North Pole.

They workout, play reindeer games, and run 5 hours a day every day to prepare.

The elves work just as hard. Santa only choses 3 elves to fly with him on Christmas eve. Elves have to have a unique set of talents to make the team.

They have to be fast, problem solvers, critical thinkers, crafty, fast at wrapping presents to make the team. An elf making the team is similar to a person making the Olympics.

How Fast is Santa’s Sleigh?

You just learned that the magic of Christmas that helps Santa’s sleigh fly, but how?

The more people believe in Santa and the magic of Christmas, the faster and higher his sled goes.

It is believed with all the love Santa gets from all the children around the word makes his sleigh fly at 600 miles per second!

That’s incredibly fast! You count on Santa to deliver your presents every Christmas Eve and Santa depends on you to make his sled fly.

Does Santa get hungry on his Sled?

This is a very good question. We do believe that Santa gets hungry on his journey, he is traveling around the entire world in one nigh!

Luckily, Santa Claus’s sled is equipped with a hot chocolate maker and plenty of storage for snacks for him, the elves and the reindeer.

Of course the milk and cookies you leave out for him helps.
