Santa’s Elves Facts for Kids Christmas 2020

Hey, kids have you ever wondered about Santa’s Elves?  Who are these mysterious helpers to Santa? What do they like to eat, where do they live?  For the answers to these questions and more check out these Santa’s Elves facts for kids below.

What is an Elf? 

Santa’s elves are small magical creatures that help Santa throughout the year. Elves are also known as Santa’s helpers and Santa’s Magical Elves. Elves are very important to Santa.  Without elves, Santa’s entire Christmas operation would be in jeopardy. 

Where do Santa’s Elves Live? 

The elves live in the North Pole with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The North Pole is the most Northern part of Earth.  It is located in the Arctic Ocean.  The North Pole is not part of any country, it sits in international waters and belongs to everyone. 

Did you know that even though it’s always cold at the North Pole and it is always covered with snow, the elves never get cold!  Their bodies are designed to be in cold weather, they also have elf clothing keep them warm and cozy.

What do Elves Homes Look Like?

The elves live in tiny colorful cottages throughout the North Pole. They look like colorful gingerbread houses.

Elves decorate their houses with Christmas lights all year round.  They also decorate their homes with candies such as candy canes, lollipops, gumdrops, licorice, and chocolate candies.

The elves love to have brightly decorated houses.  Throughout the year.  They have decorating contests to see whose house it the brightest and most cheerful.

These contests are very important to the elves and they take them seriously.  When an elf wins a decorating contest they get a special treat from Santa.  The treat is always a surprise and always special. 

What do Santa’s Elves Look Like?

All of Santa’s elves are short.  They are all under 4ft tall.  Santa always says the best things come in small packages.  

Elves have two pointy ears and rosy cheeks. Some elves have blue eyes, some have green while others have brown or black.  Elves have 26 tiny teeth. Just like people elf hair is a variety of colors and textures.  Some elves have short hair, some have long.  Many elves have curly hair and others have straight. 

Santa’s Elves come from all different ethnic backgrounds to represent all the different children from around the world.

 Elf Jobs

Santa’s village at the North Pole is a big community.  Since many people live there including all the elves and Santa and his family there are many jobs available.  Most of the jobs are for the elves.  Many of them work in Santa’s workshop making toys. Elves make toys throughout the entire year not just during Christmas.  Making toys keeps the elves busy throughout the year.

Some take care of Santa’s Reindeer and others bake cookies and make candies. There are schools for elf children so some elves are teachers. Teachers teach elves how to read and write, they teach them about history, science, and technology.  They are also classes on wrapping presents and bow making. Elf children get homework every night and also have to take tests. 

One of the biggest jobs at the North Pole is working in the mail department.  The elves go through all Santa’s letters from children and make sure that each and everyone is read by Santa. 

On Christmas Eve Santa’s elves also help prepare Santa’s sleigh for his long journey ahead.  Some elves are chosen to ride with Santa and help deliver presents.

What do Santa’s Elves Eat?

Elves’ favorite things to eat are cookies, candies, and pizza.  Mrs. Claus looks after the elves to make sure they also eat fruits and vegetables.  While cookies and candies are yummy, it’s important to eat a healthy diet, that’s what Mrs. Claus says anyway.

Santa’s Elves Facts for Kids 

Elves love animals.  Their favorite animals are Arctic fox, polar bears, penguins, narwhals, and reindeer of course.

Elves also love to read.  They read every night before bed.  Their favorite story is The Night Before Christmas.

Santa’s elves also love sports.  Their favorite sport is snowball fighting. 

Santa’s Elves live for a very long time.  Children’s happiness and belief in the magic of Christmas keeps Elves alive and well.  So remember to never lose the spirit of Christmas.

Popular boy elf names are Jingles, Buddy, Charlie, Jax.  Popular girl elf names are Nellie, Elfie, Princess Cupcake, and Trixie.
