This is a fun activity to do with a group of kids at a birthday party or afterschool or weekend activity. In this activity kids will get to stomp Jolly Ranchers to make their own lollipops.
These lollipops are a great snack for parties. They also make great table decorations for parties. Just place them in a candy bag and a ribbon and place a couple in a vase or container in the center of the table.
Follow the step-by-step directions below to make your own lollipops.
As with any activity involving an oven adult supervision is required.
Materials: Jolly Ranchers, cookie or chocolate lollipop stick (available at Michaels and Walmart), zip lock plastic bags, plastic grocery store bag, something to crush Jolly Ranchers (i.e meat tenderizer, rolling-pin, small hammer, block etc..), aluminium foil, cooking spray
Pre-heat oven for 300
Step 1: Separate the Jolly Rancher colors. To make big lollipops place 4 Jolly Ranchers of the same color into small ziplock bags. Give each child 4-5 ziplock bags each bag containing a different color. Place those smaller ziplock bags into 1 plastic grocery store bag, tie loosely.
Tip: If you have a group of kids you may want to give each child a separate color. one child gets all the red, one gets all the blue etc… so they know which one they made.
Step 2: Have the children crush the Jolly Ranchers into small pieces using a rolling-pin, block, small hammer, meat tenderizer etc…
Step 3: Spray a piece of aluminum foil with cooking spray. Have the children arrange their candies around the lollipop stick. Leave about 2 1/2 inches between the colors, they will spread while baking.
Step 4: Place the lollipop in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. You can put on the oven light so the kids can watch their Jolly Ranchers melt.
Step 5: Pull the lollipop out of the oven and let cool for about 30 minutes. Remove the lollipop from the aluminum foil and now your ready to eat. Enjoy!
