How to Make Homemade Dog Snacks for Kids

Dogs are our best friends! Do something special for your favorite pooch by making some homemade dog treats.  These homemade dog treats are easy to make and your dog will surely love them.  Try some of these recipes today.

As with any cooking activity adult supervision is required.

These treats are for dogs only, please do not eat.

Turkey Treats

Makes about 2 1/2 dozen

Ingredients: 1/2 pound of ground turkey, 1 tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese, 1/2 tablespoon chopped parsley, 1 egg beaten, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 tablespoon brewer’s yeast

Pre heat oven 350

Step 1: Add turkey, cheese and parsley to a mixing bowl and blend.

Step 2: Add beaten egg and oil and mix well.

Step 3: Pour in the whole wheat flour and yeast.

Step 4: Knead with hands until dough is smooth.

Step 5: Take small pieces of dough and roll into a ball.

Step 6: Place balls of dough on an ungreased baking sheet.

Step 7: Bake dough for 20 minutes.  Let treats cool completely.  When treats are completely cool you can give them to your pet.

 

Peanut Butter Treats

Makes about 2 dozen

Ingredients: 2 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup cornmeal, 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons peanut butter, dog bone cookie cutters (any shape cookie cutter can be used)

Pre-heat oven for 350

Step 1: Combine whole wheat flour, cornmeal and rolled oats in a mixing bowl.

Step 2: Add water, oil, eggs  and peanut butter to the mixture.  Mix well with spoon.

Step 3: On a floured surface roll out dough about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 4: Use cookie cutters to create shapes

Step 5: Bake for 15 minutes.  Turn oven off and let treats cool in the oven.  The treats will get hard as they cool. When they are completely cool you can give them to your pet.

 

Bacon Treats

Makes about 2 dozen

Ingredients: 3 slices of bacon, 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 cup water, 1/4 cup powdered milk, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 2 1/4 cups wheat germ

Pre-heat oven for 350

Step 1: Cook bacon until crisp then crumble into tiny pieces.

Step 2: Add wheat germ, whole wheat flour, powered milk, water, vegetable oil, eggs and bacon to a mixing bowl.

Step 3: Mix well with a wooden spoon.  The dough will become stiff.

Step 4: Take small pieces of dough, roll into a ball and place on the tray.

Step 5: Bake for 15 minutes.  Turn off the oven and let the treats cool in the oven.  They will harden as they cool.  Remember make sure treats are completely cool before giving them to your dog.
