It’s Christmas time and that means cookies! Kids love helping in the kitchen. Baking cookies is a great and tasty activity to do with kids. These recipes below are easy to follow, fun to make, tasty and cute. So, get those aprons on get the kids in the kitchen and start making cookies.
Remember: Cookies make great gifts from children to family, friends and loved ones.
Christmas Cream Cheese Cookies
These cookies are my favorite because they are versatile, use little ingredients and taste great.
Ingredients: 3 oz cream cheese, 1 cup butter, 1 egg yolk, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour; optional food coloring and sprinkles
Pre-heat oven for 325
Step 1: In a large bowl cream the butter, sugar and cream cheese
Step 2: Add egg yolk and vanilla
Step 3: Add flour a little at a time and mix until well blended
Step 4: Knead dough into a ball
Step 5: Optional: You can separate dough and add a couple drops of food coloring to get colorful Christmas Cookies
Step 6: Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to make shapes, add dough to a cookie press, or drop spoonfuls of dough on cookie sheet. Use un-greased cookie sheet. Add sugar sprinkles before baking.
Bake for 10-15 minutes. Cookies will remain light in color. They will be a little darker on the bottom.
Apple Pie Gingerbread Cookies
Pre-heat oven 350
This is very easy to make and tastes great. You can substitute apple pie filling with any fruit pie filling, you can also use a variety of cookie cutter shapes.
Ingredients: Apple Pie Cake Filling, Gingerbread man cookie cutter, Pillsbury Pie Crust optional egg, sprinkles
Step 1: Roll out the Pillsbury Pie Crust
Step 2: Use Gingerbread cookie cutters to make shapes. The shapes need to be in pairs.
Step 3: Separate the shapes into pairs. Spoon a little of the apple pie filling in the middle of one gingerbread man. Use the second gingerbread man to cover the one with the filling. Repeat with each pair of gingerbread men.
Step 4: Using your fingers go around the edges of the gingerbread man pushing together so no pie filling can come out.
Step 5: Optional: brush egg white over gingerbread man and add sprinkles
Step 6: Bake for 20 minutes until pie crust is lightly brown.
Chocolate Reindeer Cookies
Pre-heat oven 375
Ingredients: 1 cup butter,1 cup sugar, 3 cups flour, 1/3 cup unsweetened coca powder, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 3 eggs, 1/2 teaspoon salt, small pretzel shape pretzels (for antlers about 70), M&M’s, red gum drops
Step 1: In a large bowl beat butter and sugar until creamy
Step 2: Add in coca powder,baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: Beat in egg and vanilla.
Step 4: Add in flour a little at a time. Keep mixing until well blended.
Step 5: On a light floured surface roll dough into circles or reindeer face shape (circular on top, slightly pointed on bottom)
Step 6: Add one pretzel to the top side of each circle, M&M’s as eyes and red gum drops as the nose.
Step 7: Bake for 9 minutes or until edges are firm.
