This cute Spring duck craft is great for toddlers in a daycare or library program. It’s also a great Pre-K or Kindergarten project for kids learning about ducks. Follow the step-by-step directions below to make your very own duck swimming in the water.

Materials
paper plate, popsicle stick, glue, crayons, scissors, duck template (or draw your own), optional googly eyes
Step 1: prep:
I prepped by cutting a slit through the middle of the paper place before working with the children. I also cut out the duck template (found online) and glued it to the popsicle stick. If you are working with an older group of children, you may want them to cut out a duck and glue it to the stick.
Step 2:
Let the children color the paper plate. I spoke to the children about some places ducks lived and let them color a pond.
Step 3:
Have the children draw feathers on their ducks. You can have them draw their own eye, or you can have them glue on a googly eye.
When we were finished, I had all the children stand up, and we sang the nursery rhyme Five Little Ducks. The kids had a great time, and everyone loved their swimming duck. See rhyme below:
Five Little Ducks
Five little ducks
went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack”
But only four little ducks came back
Four little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack”
But only three little ducks came back.
Three little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack”
But only two little ducks came back.
Two little ducks
Went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack
but only one little duck came back.
One little duck
Went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack”
But no ducks came back.
Sad mother duck
Went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Sad mother duck said
“Quack, quack, quack”
And all of her ducks came swimming back.
